Federal  Minister  of the Interior Schily welcomes operating system decision
of the Bundestag.

The  Council  of Elders of the German federal daily decided today to replace
the operating system Windows NT used at present in the German Bundestag by a
mixture  from  Linux  (server range) and Windows XP (Client range). Thus the
Bundestag  decided  for  a  software  strategy,  which  clearly  reduces the
dependence on individual manufacturers.

Federal  Minister  of  the Interior Otto Schily welcomes this strategy: "the
decision  of the federal daily is a good signal also for the administrations
of  the  federation,  the  countries  and  the municipalities to solve their
software landscapes from one-sided dependence. I see it also as confirmation
of   the   strategy  of  the  Federal  Government,  those  for  the  federal
administration  an  intensified  employment  of  open SOURCE often commodity
recommend."

Also  the  Federal  Ministry  of the Interior sets with the migration of its
systems  on  a  mixed  solution from Linux and Windows. The coordination and
advisory  board  of the Federal Government for information technology in the
federal  administration  (KBSt), settled in the ministry of the Interior, by
publications  and Workshops already in the two last years SOURCE software in
the administration put important bases for the employment of open.

At present and bundles it interlaces the numerous projects and together with
the  Federal  Office  for  security  in  the  information technology (BSI) a
program for the promotion of pilot projects presented.
